Welcome at the Peace Village
The 40 studios are divided into four pavilions, providing a splendid overview of the site. The number of beds and the lay-out varies depending on the size of te studios. The corner rooms house two to four beds with the en-suite bathroom, toilet, living area and beds on the same level. The cosy large houses (4 to 6 people) have an extra mezzanine with sleeping area and a downstairs bathroom, separate toilet and a large sitting area. Through this link, you can download the rooming list which gives you an overview of the number of beds per room. Each pavilion also has two studios which are fully adapted to the needs of people with physical limitations. This document (p.193) gives a good overview of the accessibility of the Peace Village.
The main building, with a spacious foyer, is ideal for welcoming large groups. On arrival, you are greeted by our staff at the reception where we check you in for your stay. Here we hand out the bedsheets (always included in the price) and the keys. There is free wifi available in the reception building. On request, we can also provide an introduction for groups on house rules and safety procedures. This is compulsory for youth groups.
The reception building comprises of several halls, each with their own function(s):
The conference & meeting room
The conference room is a large hall (12 by 14 meters) which can be used for all kind of events events. It is equipped with tables, chairs, a large screen and projector. For smaller groups or side activities, you are welcome to use our smaller meeting room (7 by 8 meters).
The bar connects the foyer with the conference room. This enables us to welcome large groups in for a drink. The bar also houses a pool table, pingpong, football table, a large screen projection, boardgames, small library and several cosy corners. Don't forget to try our local beer of the month!
The restaurant, with half open kitchen, can seat about 150 guests. The hall can also be divided into a larger and smaller compartment on request. Breakfast is always included in the overnight stay. Lunch and dinner (a three course hot meal or a cold buffet) are prepared with great care by our kitchen team.
The large outdoor terrain next to the hostel contains amongst others a football, basketball and netball pitch. You can also play chess on a large board or organise a camp fire. We provide a whole range of equipment at the hostel. Some 400 meters from the hostel, you can also find a petanque lane, a play ground and another football pitch. Sport is not only relaxing, it also works as a catalyst to bring different groups staying at the hostel together. This leads to memorable evenings, new friendships and strengthens group ties. In 2014, we organised our own world cup tournament amongst resident groups for instance.
Accessibility and parking
Through it's rural environment, the Peace Village avoids the busy traffic of cities like Lille but remains easily accessible with large roads and a motorway less than two miles away. We are located 30 minutes from Lille and 10 minutes from Ypres. The hostel has a large private parking for several cars and coaches.
With the cylcing network and themed cycling routes in the Flanders Fields area, recreational cyclists are bound to have a wonderful time. At the Peace Village, we like to help out with a new bicycle shelter which can house 24 bikes and can be locked at night. A high pressure water pump is available to clean the bikes after you've explored the area. The Peace Village also has quite a bit of experience with catering for professional cycling teams (Trek, Lotto, Quickstep, ...).
